Kevin Pritchard: kiteboarders' worst nightmare
The revenge came, after several lost events.
Windsurfers have finally beated kitesurfers.
It all happened in the Lord of the Wind Showdown, held in Los Barriles, Mexico.
The fastest rider with the
(FASTEST SAILS EZZY WINGS: EZZY INFINITY)
competed for $3500 in cash and absolute glory.
Κevin Pritchard said:
"This was a memorable victory.
The kiters were so confident that they were going to win,
it put a fire under me.
When they started talking it up, I was like ok, lets do this.
I went, got my Ezzy Infinity 8.5 Wing - a two cam wing,
and my slalom board and put it down", says Pritchard.

The conditions were ideal.
"The wind was perfect and they must feel pretty bad
getting beat by this 2011 Ezzy Infinity a 2 cams Wing!
It was great, the whole beach was cheering for me
and i think they had heard enough of the kiteboarders talking it up.
Even some of the kiters were stoked to see the windsurf still hold the edge!
It was really fun in the end, especially since the windsurfing took the victory.
I felt like it was a victory for all windsurfers, not just for myself.
It felt great!"

At the start of the race, the kiteboarders opened up with all the confidence in the world with John Hieneken out in front.
Kevin Pritchard was the windsurfer's ace card and had a reasonably safe start but gave up some distance.
As the kiters battled against the windsurfers, inch by inch,
the crafty Pritchard started turning up the speed.
With a bit of an extra drive from the earlier riders meeting, Pritchard was holding down his board and sail:

as best he could to prove to the world who still could make it around a course faster.
Knowing that the kites could make up some time on the downwind, Pritchard put the hammer down and went flying off the wind. It was three miles down wind to the finish.

After weeks of under-the-radar work and negotation,
Kevin Pritchard is stepping out as Ezzy Sails’ newest team rider.
We caught up with him in Los Barilles, Baja –
just days after he got his first set of new sails –
to get the lowdown on his move over to Ezzy.
First question is simple. Why Ezzy?
They’re based on Maui. David makes world class sails,
and he’s a designer that can not only hear what I say
but feel what I’m talking about.
Despite being in the industry with Dave for fifteen years,
we never really knew each other well –
but there was a mutual respect that developed
on the beach and on the water.
I’ve been competing a long time,
and he’s been in the business a long time.
I was looking for something new and challenging,
and they’re looking to expand their team
by bringing in someone that not only has good visibility,
but can help produce content for the brand.
So it sounds like your job with Ezzy goes beyond winning
contests and getting pictures….
It’s more about growing with the brand.
I want to be able to sail with Graham –
hang with someone who’s super young, pushing it hard,
and help him succeed as a professional sailor.
And it’s about media production –
expanding my skills as a videographer and photographer,
and helping expose the brand through compelling images and stories.
So, Ezzy doesn’t make race sails.
Are you going to continue to do the PWA Racing Tour?
I’m going to take at least a year off from the PWA racing tour
to take on the new challenge of brand promotion
and get back a little of the stoke of just sailing for fun.
In the future, who knows?
I do know that I’m going to do the American Wave Tour –
I’ve been travelling Europe for the last fifteen years.
I want to see the US - I want to help promote the tour
and get it up and running –
and I’m stoked on where we get to sail.
So now that deal is done, how do you feel?
I’m stoked. It’s a new page.
It’s a new chapter in my career,
and one that will let me grow not only as a rider,
but as a designer, videographer and photographer.
