The Ezzy Freeride has cracked the conundrum of how to achieve a sail with the speed, the power and the stability associated with cam sails but without using any cams at all. The deep, draft forward profile of the Freeride actually looks similar to cammed sail. But instead of using the mechanics of a camber to put the shape into the sail, the Freeride shape comes from a refined technique of seam shaping.
Of course, now a sail easier to rig, and without the cams, the Freeride flips quicker in jibes. That, simply put, means a faster jibe.
The Freeride is built to last, so it contains no monofilm. Stitch for stitch, material for material, the Freeride is built exactly like its cousin, the Ezzy Wave. The Freeride sail body panels are made with our Spectra X film. The foot uses an even stronger, closer spaced, puncture-proof Spectra X- film. The vinyl window offers superior visibility and can be cleaned for the life of the sail. And the Freeride employs our removable, triple pulley system which makes downhauling very easy.
Tuning the Freeride is a snap. For setting the downhaul, there are visual indicators on the leech which show you exactly how much downhaul to apply. For setting the outhaul, the Freeride has three clew guide cords, one for light wind, one for medium wind and one for high wind. All you do is set your boom to the length of the guide cord and then outhaul to the end of the boom.
Finally, our quality is second to none.
That's why we rig each and every sail in our factory. And while we're rigging, we set the adjustable top to the correct mast length, we adjust the battens with their correct tension then, we carefully inspect the sail. Only once it passes our rigorous inspection does it go into the bag for shipping on to you.

Dimensional stability
Stiff and highly oriented molecular structure leads to a high modulus of elasticity, low creep and low stress relaxation. Low thermal shrinkage, i.e., excellent dimensional stability.
Heat resistance
Thermal decomposition threshold of 500ºC, so Technora can be used at 200ºC for long periods. At 250ºC, it maintains more than half of its room-temperature tensile strength.

Highly resistant to acids, alkalis and organic solvents; not vulnerable to damage caused by steam or sea water.

"The Wave Panther is the hardcore wave sail.
It has new cloth in the leech.
This cloth is made just for us.
The yarns are 100% Technora.
Technora is an aramid, like Kevlar, but has much better UV and flexing durability than Kevlar.
The warp (longitudinal) are closely spaced and give extremely low stretch up the leech. The stretch in the warp direction is 40% less than out regular Spectra X film. In addition, the new cloth has much thinner film as compared to the X film. The thinner film gives better UV life because it does not get as brittle as thicker film. The UV testing we did showed the new cloth to have about double the UV life. In addition, the new cloth is about 25% lighter than our standard Spectra X film.
I've shortened the boom, especially on the bigger sizes and reduced the leech hollow to keep the area the same. The 6.3 is about 7.0 cm shorter on the boom and the 4.2 is about the same as last year. The 5.5 has about the same boom length as last year's 5.2, the new 5.2 is where the old 5.0 was, the new 5.0 is at the old 4.7, etc. The shorter boom is nicer for wave riding. The low end has not been effected.
The foot shape (depth at foot batten) is slightly less than last year. This makes the sails flip easier and hasn't hurt the low end.
The wave panther has lighter feel than the 2008 sail and is a bit more stable.
The rigging is similar, except it doesn't take quite as much outhaul. For example, the 2008 4.7 had 10cm for the maximum outhaul, the Wave Panther has 8.5 cm. The minimum outhaul setting of both are still 6.0 cm."
The 2009 Wave Panther takes over from the long running and successful Wave SE as our premier wave sail.
Compared to the Wave SE, the Wave Panther has a shorter boom and is lighter weight. On the water, the Wave
Panther has a smooth and direct power delivery, combined with very easy handling.
The Wave Panther's design advantage allows operation in a wider wind range, so you can sail longer without the need to re-rig.
The leech area of the Wave Panther utilizes our new, low stretch Technora-fiber sail cloth, which delivers
superior performance with less weight. The Wave Panther's mid and luff sections are made of our Spectra X film,
for strength and great visibility throughout the body of the sail. We use higher density Spectra X film in the foot area to resist harness hook tears and nose-of-the-board puntures.

Hy Barry,
i didn't find any mausail to try here in south of france (leucate). I just get the opportunity to try 09 ezzy and so I will stay ezzy next year but i'm a very open mind guy and maybe my next quiver will be mauisail...
I found the new material "technora" very light and it give's the sail a very great sensation of softness. Do think in the future most of the sails will use this material including mauisails?

we have been using Technora for race sails all year with some great results. i'm sure we will be looking at using it in wave sails as well, especially the bigger ones. it's a tough material and appears to be able to take wave loading for a short time, but not sure yet how it wikll handle the big stuff. working on that.
did you have to pay a premium for the technora in your ezzy sails? it is very expensive as raw material.
sorry to hear you can't find a place to try our sails in one of the best plpaces in france. i will talak to our agent there about that.

As soon as unrolled the sail it appears sturdiest and cured in every detail.
Every adopted choice and solution denote a meticulous attention.
All it is thought in order to render the sail indestructible and little subject to the usury. From the booklet of the instructions, totally plasticized, where they come meticulously explained the references in order to arm it, to all those details that make riders the more demanding happy.
In every sail, the surprised appreciate one of a key holder-miniatura that reproduces faithfully, even in the color, the acquired sail.
In order to facilitate the ideal trimmaggio on the penultimate cloth we find effective references that they indicate the just tension to give to the downhaul in relation to the intensity of the wind.

The new panther is the stablest, lightest, shortest of boom and sufficiently neutral sail for surfare the waves without being strattonato.
A lot seems of having between the hands a wing the profile is perfect.

sSs Team Rider, Steve Carpenter, is one of the few windsurfers to have tested one of the new 2009 Ezzy Freewave sails and this is what he has to say:-
'The Freewaves are a completely new range of Ezzy sails for the 2009 season, with noticeably different sailing characteristics from the other Ezzy sail ranges. I have been sailing the Freewaves for the past week and all I can say is that they are fantastic sails, that will more than meet the requirements of the majority of wave, freestyle and recreational sailors.
When rigged on the beach the sails are relatively flat (especially when compared to the Ezzy Wave SEs from the past couple of years). On the water they fill and power up nicely and are very comfortable "forgettable" sails with a light feel. Where they really come into their own is in transitions, the sails go completely neutral and move smoothly onto the new tack without catching on the mast or the need to pump the boom to get the battens to rotate, making it very easy to complete transitions and tricks.
I have sailed the Freewaves in a wide variety of conditions from flat water to waves and in both marginal and fully power conditions and also have also used them when practicing in non-planing conditions.
They work very well in all these conditions, having a good natural range and also a wide range of tuning options. The sails set with modest amounts of downhaul and tuning is principally by adjusting the outhaul. For example the outhaul on the 5.8 has a massive tuning range of 6cms from the fullest to flatest settings
So what you get is a light, smooth, adjustable sail with Ezzy build quality, durability and ethics, which is very relevant to the needs of many sailors.
I'd like to thank Jem Hall, who let me "have a go" on his sails in Prasonisi (and then couldn't get me off them for the rest of the week) and Simon Bassett at 2XS for letting me use his sails at West Wittering.

I'm obsessed with longevity and I provide a lifetime guarantee with every sail no matter how many people have used it. I stand behind my sails. Some people say to me that's stupid, no one will buy a new sail. But I know people would rather buy a product that lasts and they also know they can sell it on after a few seasons and it will hold its price.
I don’t put a lot of emphasis on team riders, they don’t buy their sails, they sometimes want something a little strange, and I don’t pay up for the PWA so consequently they don’t list Ezzy as a sailors sponsor. Luckily I have my son competing and they can’t make him change his surname!

Ιt is impossible for us in EZZY SAILS to produce a bad sail.
If that weren't enough, we also rig EVERY EZZY sail and go over them
with a fine tooth comb to make sure the shape and sewing is perfect.
All EZZY sails have the endobatten construction,
which means the seams are the batten pockets.

Luff curve: 1.0 mm
All sails have the endobatten construction, which means the seams are the
batten pockets.
This also means that each panel section must be finished on the edges and
the last thing that happens(before the sleeve goes on) is the batten seams are sewn.
That means we are unable to correct the luff or leech side if the panels do
not line up, the result being the sail could not be made.
This is not the case with a conventional batten pocket construction that
the other companies use.
They can be off by 10mm or more and still fudge the leech or luff edges,
but they will be also changing the design.
My point being, it is impossible for us to produce a bad sail. If that
weren't enough, we also rig EVERY sail and go over them with a fine tooth
comb to make sure the shape and sewing is perfect.
